Curious to see whether this waiter is flirting with me because he is interested, or whether he is flirting for tips. To preface, I am a graduate student home for the holidays and each time I have had this waiter, I've been with my family--so I have never personally paid the bill, my family has.
The last few times we have gone to the restaurant, the waiter has asked me what my name is (and not my family members) and told me his name, stared at me and smiled at me from across the room, and told specifically me to "come back SOON" with an emphasis on "soon."
Today, we went again to the restaurant but did not have him as our waiter. We had a different waiter, but he still made a point of saying hi to me and my family, walking by our table a lot, staring at me from across the room and smiling, bringing us extra napkins (looked at me when he did so), and telling me personally that he made sure we got big pours on our wine orders. As we were leaving, he again came up and said to just me that he hopes we "come back SOON" and that we should be sure to request him as our waiter next time. I said I will try to come back without my family and he smiled/said "great."
I am very interested in this waiter--he is exactly my type and I'd love to go on a date with him, but I worry that if I leave my number on a receipt, or go to the restaurant alone sometime and try to ask him out, that he will say no and I will feel awkward going back. Waiters of reddit, does this sound like typical waiter behavior or is he flirting with me?
