Which is better, playing hard to get or “if you like them, talk to them?“

Hi! I (22f) am having a hard time of how to go about messaging guys and whether or not I’m coming off too strong. I like this guy (22m) and I think he likes me the same way, and we just started messaging on tiktok (lol) last night. I met him at work (I know I know, don’t shit where you eat, but I work somewhere I could happily transfer to a different area easily should it go south) and we seem to get along really easily, we both flirted back and forth an equal amount. He asked for my tiktok first and the next day I sent him a funny tiktok. We messaged up until I went to bed and he was the last one to respond.

Okay context over and onto my question. My best friend subscribed to the idea of playing hard to get and it seems to work for her. I on the other hand, when I like someone, obviously want to talk to them. She thinks I shouldn’t message him until he messages me again but he was the last to send a message so I think it’s my turn?? Idk I’m probably way overthinking it but it got me wondering what’s the best way to go about it, message him or no? I don’t want to come on too strong :/ I’ve never been in a relationship and I don’t really have any game lol so any advice is appreciated!!
