A week ago, this happened. I'm fairly certain this will melt your heart at least a little bit lol. I think about it and I'm still grinning from ear to ear.
To sum it up, a girl complimented me that I looked good in my button down shirt and I went totally speechless. I didn't know how to take that compliment and I still don't. Until then, I couldn't remember the last time someone complimented me. That too, a woman.
And not that compliments from fellow men don't mean shit, but since I'm a straight man, it touches me differently when a woman does it. Obviously.
I try and make it a point to compliment my friends, gents and ladies alike. Even though it's never reciprocated, and that's fine. But in a relationship, that's a two way street.
Am I saying you should compliment your significant other all the time? No. But it does work wonders when it's genuinely meant. I have been in one relationship in my life - when we were together, I complimented her a fair number of times: "hey beautiful!", "you look gorgeous in that skirt", and even "damn girl! *wink emoji*" and her face lit up every time. And even when she accomplished something at work, I'd compliment her for that too - "That's awesome the way you handled xyz situation!"
I'm not shitting on her, she did make me feel manly and handsome... but she never vocalized it. It's nice to hear it out loud once in a while. I'm not saying that you should pin your confidence solely on your significant other but I feel like your significant other should be your #1 cheerleader. And are cheerleaders known to be quiet? HELL NO.
Men already get complimented less than women. We go for years and years without anyone appreciating anything about us whereas women are more so saturated with compliments, even to the point where they're lewd and rude. But I think it's safe to say that in general, women know that people appreciate things about them. Men are starved for any kind of appreciation.
So ladies and gents, compliment your man. Look him in the eyes and say it like you mean it, cause you do mean it. It'll mean the world to him. :D
