I’ve had a crush on my neighbor for a long time, but I always had a boyfriend. I broke up with him and he knows I’m single now.
I suspected for a while that he might like me, too. I used to catch him staring at me and he’d immediately look down like he was embarrassed. He’s shy in general, but he was always especially quiet with me. He’d also seemingly follow me around a bit like he was working up the nerve to finally talk to me, but he’d just awkwardly linger around. More than once, I’ve also seen his friends looking at me and seemingly teasing him before he walked away from them.
I’m shy, too, but after I ended my relationship, I finally worked up the nerve to start saying hi to him. Now he always raises his eyebrows and smiles when he says hi to me and my friend even said that he doesn’t seem to light up that way with anyone else.
I asked him to help me fix something a while back and at one point I had to lean in close to show him what was broken. After I stepped back again, he started awkwardly fiddling with his tools like he was nervous. He eventually left and then a minute or so later he knocked on my door. I thought he was coming back to ask me out, but he just shyly asked me to rate his repair business and then he quickly ran off. I left him a glowing review.
A few weeks after that, I asked for his help again and before I could even get back to him, he showed up but I wasn’t home. He texted me telling me how to fix the problem myself and I mentioned that I was home now and made him cookies if he wanted to come back, but he just said if it wasn’t fixed after I tried what he said to do, he’d come back the next day. I took this as him telling me he wasn’t interested, but at the time he didn’t know I was single then so maybe that’s why??
I asked him a question about our building the other day and he had a huge smile talking to me but he was still quiet and ran off quickly. The other day, he actually started walking towards me when he saw me, but he didn’t look up at me until I walking past and then he awkwardly said hi how are you so I just turned back and said the same to him. Now he’s been avoiding me altogether. I wore a cute dress today and said hi to him but he completely ignored me.
Do I just make him nervous or is he just not interested? I’m really considering just texting him asking if he wants to get coffee or something but I’m scared that I’ll make him uncomfortable and we see each other around almost everyday. With how he’s been, I’m scared that he senses that I like him and is trying to tell me he’s not into me.
