Okay... I (58M) know this is probably basic as hell for those who have been in the dating world for the past three decades, but it's all a brave new world to me.
If a woman asks for a 'raincheck' after offering some reason she doesn't want to do something on a specific date / time, is that the modern equivalent of a polite brush-off, and, if not, is the ball in her court to return the offer, or am I expected to ask again?
The old rule of thumb was to ask no more than once unless that conversation resulted in a future date being set right away, but the unsolicited concept of 'raincheck' indicates - perhaps only to be polite or kind, in her view - at least some interest.
I didn't think anything of it the first time, thinking it was just a brush-off, but now a second woman (out of only four) has used the same antiquated term and I truly have no idea what that means these days.
From friends, I get contrary advice: asking more than once is creepy and will make them uncomfortable around me going forward; women need men to be persistent, so I should offer at least three times; and every opinion in between.
Thoughts?
