Can't Seem to Attract Alternative/Metal/Goth Women

My lords, ladies and those that lieth betwixt,

I got out of a relationship 2 years ago and decided to get back into the game this year. Now aside from the obvious world-ending disease, I've found that the biggest obstacle to me dating is my appearance. Not my general body shape, I've lost about 30 kgs (66 lbs) and I'm looking much better than I did last year (I'm 185 cms [6 ft 1 inches] by the way). I have a full beard that I keep clean with special shampoos and oils. I have a morning routine that is maybe a stone's throw away from Batemanville, but I've always enjoyed "gussying up." My general shape is, I guess, tall and broad-shouldered with skin about the same colour as coffee with a little bit of milk. Also I shave my head, but it works for me. But even with all the weight changes, grooming and my shared interests, I still can't seem to attract women in my circles.

I'm a South African coloured (mixed race) guy in the local metal scene. I've been going to gigs and living the metal lifestyle since I was 16, but I've found that if wanted to ask women at gigs on a date (or just do some light flirting) they don't seem to be up for it. I've tried outside of that environment as well with similarly aligned women, but that too was a bust. In the past, I thought it was because of my weight (I was quite heavy at the time) or my personality. Then I lost the weight, nothing really changed. And I've never had a problem talking to women before, so I'm unsure what I'm doing wrong.

So what I've been wandering is, could my race be an issue when it comes to dating the (mostly white) alternative girls? I know I can change my body (which I've spent many hours a week doing with boxing and weight-lifting), but I can't change my brown skin. I mean I could, but I'm not using what little money I make to bleach my skin. Any advice for not scaring the alternative ladies away with my big, brown ass?
