This friend of mine has been in my life since I was 15, we dated back in middle school and haven’t had any romantic connection since then but have stayed in contact as support for each other up until now (we’re 28). Hes currently recovering from a very severe car accident which has rendered him wheelchair bound until he can learn to walk again. Recently, he’s let me know that he has has always loved me deeply and wants me to know he sees me as the one for him. He knows I’m not looking to be in a relationship right now and that my focus is my kids as well as completing my education but says he’s waiting until I’m ready. I’m worried a bit because he’s never said anything like this before and given his injury I’m wondering if there’s more to it than him truly loving me. I’ve talked to him about it and he says he hasn’t said anything before because he was afraid of any serious commitment but now he’s ready. I really do care for him but I’d hate to miss the big picture here because of my feelings and both of us get hurt for no reason by proceeding with a relationship that started on false pretenses or fantasy. Is he just lonely or scared due to the accident or is he for real? Any thoughts??
