How could I (18f) tactfully let my friend who is also my crush (19m) know that I’m available (and eager) to be his date to events?

My friend “Nick”, 19m, is basically a dream guy. We have a lot in common and I’d really love to date him. Lately he seems to be taking some level of interest in me, but he’s also very sweet and friendly in general so it’s hard to tell.

His family is somewhat socially prominent in a few local cultural heritage organizations. They get invited to lots of weddings, banquets, and similar events. His family generally goes to these events as a nuclear unit. He has two parents and an older sister, so it’s two men and two women. But the other day he mentioned that, now that his sister has a boyfriend, he’s probably going to be expected to show up to these events with a plus-one as well.

This seems like the perfect timing/opportunity for me to either (a) become closer friends with him, (b) date him, or (c) both, by accompanying him to an event or two. These would all be welcome results. I talked with him for a little while about one of the parties his family goes to every year, but I didn’t know how to tactfully say, “take me with you!”, so the conversation didn’t amount to anything in that regard.

He’s not very good with hints. He has at least one or two other female admirers, but he doesn’t notice when girls like him until it qualifies as harassment, and then he understandably freaks out because, well, he’s being harassed. I want to get his attention in a way that says “I’ll be a great plus-one” without freaking him out. What do I do?
