Is it better to ask someone for their number or offer your number to them?

I'm asking to see if people would think one or the other would come across as being more awkward?

My reasoning is that whilst asking for someone's number is more "traditional" I guess, but with offering your number it puts less pressure on the recipient as they don't have to call/text if they are not interested but I feel like this isn't as commonly done?
