So I’m a black male and she is Hispanic. She was born outside of the country and moved here with her family right after she was born. We have no issues at all concerning race, but we’re obviously different with our cultures. She speaks Spanish and I don’t. There are a few authentic Hispanic restaurants and a Hispanic ice cream place with amazing ratings in the area. Of course everything is pretty much closed now, but would it be triggering for me to take her somewhere directly related to her culture? We usually just go to regular chains, nothing specifically authentic to culture. I’ve never had Hispanic food and I would like to take her there, but maybe have her give me recommendations and stuff. I spoke to one of my buddies about it and he said it’s extremely racist and I’ll probably piss her off. He said to consider if I would go to a Hispanic place without her. Is that racist?
