Am I wrong for taking back a cheater?

Recently I (22F) have been seeing someone (21M) for 6 months. We have known each other for 8 years but have never dated. Recently since we been together Alex (21M) cheated on me. I have always been so so sensitive to this and begged him to do anything but that as I struggled with that in my last relationship. Alex is from a native country awaiting a visa as he has been for some time. Despite this all. I took him back and he promised not to do it again. He would always start random arguments then disappear for hours and randomly appear and apologize. I have a 1 year old and he doesn’t have much interest and says my value is little to zero. Despite this all.. I felt a shift. He doesn’t want to see me but does not want to break up.. upon searching and finding he has been seeing s** workers different ones everyday. His family is very strict and has been trying to get him away from me since I have a child and they believe he can do much better. I still see them frequently to try to earn their blessings but they do not approve. After I realized he had just seen a worker and came out with my family the next hour. I told my sister who then told his family. I have not heard from Him since I have confronted him nor has he tried to contact me.. Am I wrong for that?
