What’s the psychology/reasoning behind feeling that someone is TOO similar to you for romance?

I’ve heard of situations where someone doesn’t feel like the right person for a romance and those romantic feelings never form, even if they might be expected to otherwise, not because they’re too different from the other person in question but because they’re too much alike. What exactly is the reasoning behind this—what causes the feeling of a person not seeming right for you to feel romantic attraction to them, because you and them have too MUCH in common? Is it due to a feeling of it not offering anything new/not being a dynamic where they “balance you out”? Can someone explain?
