Is it possible to want to be friends whilst experiencing attraction without romance?

I’m kind of new to dating and relationships and a while ago things were going great with this girl. We’d planned dates, and she had told me all about what she found attractive about me, which I found pretty flattering, and I had done the same. We got on amazingly, and we considered each other best friends.

Although we never officially dated, because we knew it would affect a friend if we started publicly dating, we got very close, but out of the blue she calls things off because she ‘suddenly realised she didn’t want a relationship’. Since then I’ve tried reaching out to her, platonically, but she’s completely ghosted and makes excuses to not talk to me.

The only explanation I can think of is maybe she found me attractive, in the sense that she liked my personality and maybe found me physically attractive, but didn’t feel romantically attracted? I really don’t know what I’m talking about but I thought someone with some more experience could maybe point out what happened. Does that happen?
