He and I work together on our college campus at a fast food restaurant. I like him, and I think he likes me too. He's even flirted with me in the past a couple of times. We got hired at the same time, but he has a great personality, and that shows with the customers. After two months, he got promoted to department lead. Department lead is essentially assistant manager. Even though I have two managers, I still consider him my boss. He's not in charge of pay or scheduling, but he's the one that assigns breaks, and will tell people to do trash or sanitize tables or whatever.
He grew kind of distant after he got promoted, and I think it's a combination of him having a lot on his plate as department lead and if he likes me, he probably didn't know how to facilitate our friendship on a friendly scale. I'm pretty sure he still likes me, because he'll do little things here and there that kind of make me feel like he does, so I think he wants something with me, but doesn't want to do anything that might disrupt the work environment.
I can't blame him for taking the job, though, even though it has changed our dynamic a bit. His mom is a single mom, and he has a younger sister. His mom struggles financially, and he sees his dad, but I don't know if he helps with money. They likely depend on him to bring some income to the house, so why wouldn't he take the position.
