Is it normal to be broken up with on the phone?

Me and boyfriend were together for 8 months. He lived 30 mins away so it was a bit hard to get to me by train.

My boyfriend was the one that was interested in me first, he showered me with affection and told me how beautiful and wonderful I am and that he was lucky. He had started to treat me not that nice. I felt empty when I was around him. If I brought up any issues, he would change the subject or tell me to forget it. He talked about himself all the time. He criticised me for tiny things. He didn’t ever want to have a phone call, only texts but he called up his female friends and supported them. Whilst I was having a hard time with work and he didn’t support me at all. Whilst I cared for him and supported him and planned dates for us.

He was new to the uk and broke. So I thought that was the reason he never took me on a date. Not once!

He phoned me up one afternoon crying and said he never fell in love with me, and was with me because he was lonely. I was so shocked, I never got to tell him my thoughts and how I felt about the way he treated me.

It’s been 2 months and I can’t get over it. I wanna know if he ever was attracted to me or whether he didn’t even find me attractive?

Would it be weird to reach out and ask him all these questions ?
