Are guys willing to talk to a girl for 2 months just for 1 date and a one night stand?

I met this guy off tinder, we texted non stop for 2 months. Including banter, flirting, and some 'intellectual' chats.

He asked me out for bowling with expectations of sex at the end.

What I don't understand is how a guy is willing to chat to a girl for 2 months just for a hookup? Is that a thing?
