Old guy friend, whom I rejected earlier, and who ended things in a nasty way, reached out and apologized. What to do?

We were great friends for 2 years, but I always noticed him flirting with me and trying to impress me in many ways.

As he saw that those things don’t work (after 1.5 years) and I’m only being a platonic friend with him, he backed off, started ignoring my messages, gave BS excuses to why he can’t do X or Y, and made false promises. Basically lied to me.

This made me really upset as I told him many times to be crystal clear with me, but he chose the road of BS.

Communication got dead, so I decided to ignore him anytime if he’d reach out.

He reached out every now and then, like once a month, sending me something low effort I can’t even reply to (memes etc.) This made me really upset that he doesn’t even acknowledge the fact how he behaved and treated me.

After 6 months of quiet time, he responded to my Instagram story and started asking how I’m doing and how he feels bad how he unintentionally screwed our friendship.

I told him how he really hurt me, and he was surprised I was so hurt and apologized then. He blamed his ADHD for what happened.

Seems like he’s trying to reconnect. I know the saying ”fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”

I’m over him, but he really made me doubt myself and the sleepless nights this caused, makes me really think do I want to keep in contact with someone like that.

Any opinions?
