Very confused by his actions

I (30f) met this guy (29m) on an app and we talked for a bit before meeting up in person. We’ve had 3 dates in total, and the first 2 were very long dates (24+ and 12 hours) Our first date was great, I actually ended up staying at his place for over 24hrs and we were intimate (I felt comfortable with him). Prior to meeting up, he was texting frequently, calling me cute and beautiful, generally just very flirty. After this date, his texting fell off significantly. He would send me a longer text, but only once every 24hrs. I chalked this up to him being busy and maybe not being able to text at work. He also had some health issues going on.

The part I am confused about is he still agrees to meet up and go on dates with me. He is very engaged in the conversation in person and seems to enjoy himself. We get along very well and share a lot of common interests. He has bought me 2 gifts on our last 2 dates, that indicated he listened to me and payed attention to little things I have mentioned that I liked. Our last date was a few days ago, and he’s back to texting only once every day.

How he acts via text and in person are very different. He seems shy when we are together, like maybe he’s nervous? And then the gift thing makes me confused because why would he get me gifts like that if he isn’t interested? I guess the lack of communication between dates is what’s throwing me off. He almost never initiated convos on the phone and it’s making me have doubts.

Should I stop texting him at this point? Is it too early for me to ask him if there’s something wrong?
