Are labels really that important? Situationship vs GF

I have been seeing a man for 6 months. We see each other twice a week, and talk everyday.

A few weeks back, I had the DTR talk with him. He pretty much said that he does not want to label someone he’s only known for 6 months a “girlfriend” because a label to him is really important, and once he calls someone a “girlfriend” he aims for marriage and to last with that person forever. He said this is a life changing event for him, especially introducing to his parents. He’s been single for 6-8 years. He’s in his upper 30s.

He said he is exclusive to me in every way, he is not interested in pursuing anything with anyone but me, and that I should trust this by his actions of him seeing me on everyday he has off (which is true) and the amount of time he spends with me.

Part of me believes him, but I also don’t know why after 6 months, he’s not there yet, the same way I am?

He stated I am looking at dating from an “unhealthy, modern perspective of running to put labels on everything” and that he really wants this relationship with me to last which is why he is doing his best to take things slowly.

What do I do? What do you guys think of labels and such?
