First time ever asking someone out. Went horribly wrong now I feel scarred :(

I started University a few weeks ago and moved into a dorm. I asked a girl out in my dorm and instead of being nice and saying no thanks she creep shamed me and I did nothing wrong. She had a bunch of other friends with her and they looked like they wanted to kill me. Now every time I leave my room I feel scared of them when every their around :( idk what to do please help. Feel like I wanna cry. Also unfortunately bunch of those girls are in one of my classes :(
