Genuinely curious. 32f here and I seem to get a lot of messages (tinder mainly but also pof) where guys message me initially saying something like “hi”. I can’t speak for everyone obviously, but I find it rather off putting.. and really doesn’t make me want to chat. If you’re gonna message, at least ask me a question? Make a comment about my bio? A joke? Anything but Hey 🧐
What prompted this question is I matched earlier with a really cute guy - was contemplating messaging him first but he beat me to the punch. And the convo went exactly like this -
Him - hey
Me - Hi! Happy new year 😊 how are you?
Him - gd wbu
Me - yeah it was nice thanks, really chilled. Up to much tonight?
Him - nothing really
Me - suppose it is only Thursday. Any plans for your weekend?
Him - nah
Me - ahh ok, same here really. Bit skint after New Years tbh!
Him - same
..
And that was that was the point where I thought sod this, it’s not worth the effort.
I know not all people who start convos like this are THAT shite at messaging, but I do wonder why even bother messaging in the first place if you’re not going to initiate/ask questions?! Seems rather silly and.. a waste of time.
So yeah, if you are one who uses this “tactic” how often does it work? Maybe I’m just being fussy and not giving him enough of a chance.. but I do feel first impressions count for a lot 🤷🏻♀️😊
