Online dating presence an abundance of options (often illusionary) ——> why invest very much emotion or time or energy in anyone? ——> why bother with a 2nd date if the first one didn’t feel magical (even if it did you may as well keep looking around)? ——> building frustration and bitterness that you can’t seem to meet anybody these days
Here’s what I just realised though...
With most of my best friends, we didn’t actually gel immediately - we met through school or friends of friends and I got to know them better over a few weeks or months until we became gradually became close friends.
I think dating is more of a design than a discovery - you have to work at building a relationship with someone not excavating some preconceived compatibility... I mean that is still possible but not the usual process in my experience.
So outside of physical attraction which in my experience is necessary to a certain degree from the get go, I think we have been conditioned to expect far too much too early - to have a magical romantic first date with a complete stranger and not settle for anything less.
Anyway I think that’s one of the main issues with online dating and dating in general today
