You don’t actually have “7 billion potential partners”

So basically I was watching a “casually explained video” about dating and he said the good ole “you have billions of potential partners” line, which, as most lonely people would understand, kinda pissed me off. It feels a little invalidating and kinda shames you in a way. Not only do your feelings not matter because statistics are on your side, but statistics are on your side so it’s your fault you’re lonely. Anyways..

I wanted to take a more practical approach to this. So, in reality, my future girlfriend is probably going to be from the state I live in. Which has a population of about 40 million. So, “generally,” I really only have 40 million choices. But, I thought to myself, that’s still too broad. I’m not gonna meet the love of my life in the northern part of my state because I literally never go there. So when I weed down to the southern part, I have 23.86 million options. But. Also, she has to be a girl. About 51.1% of the US population is female.

So, at this point, I thought to specify some demographics and groups I’m interested in, other than just females. Like females in a specific height category, age group, and race/culture. So, after factoring in all my preferences, I found out I actually have, roughly, 1 million potential partners based on my lifestyle, preferences, and location.

Not sure why but doing it this way made me feel better about my chances.
