I work in a nursing home / rehabilitation center and we had a little old lady in a little over a month ago there just because she had fallen and needed help to heal. While with us she told me the story of her husband traveling to her home in Ireland while he was in the military while they were only kids. They met at a bar and danced the night away before he pulled her away and proposed. She was 17 and he was 18. She told me they kept their love a secret from family for a little while because they knew it was too soon and they were too young, but a year later they were happily married.
He visited her every day while she was with us. He was healthy and happy and they were still very much in love.
Today I was looking through the paper and found her obituary. She had died alone in her home just less than a month after he had. Her family said in the writing that she had died of a broken heart. I will never forget this heartbreakingly beautiful love story. They were together for over 60 years.
I feel like this is just a little bit of hope for me and hopefully someone else that love is real and true and can be long lasting. I want nothing more than to find the love that they shared. I believe it is out there.
