I've never been in a serious relationship. This hasn't ever bothered me up until about a year ago, when I think that the whole COVID situation got me to realize just how damn lonely I am.
The field that I work in is 95% male and very segregated from the rest of the company for security reasons. Meeting someone through work isn't really an option. Since most of my lasting friendships were made during college we're now spread out all over the country. I have very few friends anywhere near where I currently live which makes going out to clubs or similar 'nightlife' events difficult (and they all hate that kind of stuff). Don't want to be the lone dude just chilling by himself.
I'm also very self-conscious about causing any discomfort or inconvenience to people around me. I go out to bars/pubs relatively often with co-workers and the few friends I have here, but I could never see myself approaching anyone in that type of situation. I've heard far to often about how people don't appreciate that type of attention and I REALLY hate the idea of approaching someone with ulterior motives when they're probably just trying to relax after a day's work. Don't want to be a nuisance.
I'm not sure what advice I'm even looking for here. I'm just so lonely and I don't see that ever changing with the way things have been going in my life. Any suggestions are appreciated.
