I'm a new student journalist who is currently in the "training phase" for my college's newspaper club. This basically means that I have to write three articles under supervision of a "trainer" before I'm actually assigned to a specific section, such as News or Opinion or Editorials, etc.
I have a huge crush on a girl who is my assigned trainer. We've had several interactions via Zoom, but they've mostly been related to my job (ex. locating sources for my articles, organizing them, etc). I've made some small-talk to her, and she's been pretty receptive to it, but like I said, most of the time we're just talking about my role and responsibilities.
We've also initiated several texts to each other but they were all related to my job.
I haven't quite gotten a grip on whether she likes me or not, but if I had to bet, I think she is somewhat intrigued. I followed her on Instagram a month or two ago, and she followed me back and she's always among the first people to view my IG stories every time I upload one. Of course, it's totally possible that she simply wants to get rid of the annoying red circles on the top of her IG screen, so I take that with a grain of salt.
I also live very close (<1 mile) from her. I consider myself to be decently attractive, so I don't think I would be shooting way outside of my league or anything.
TL;DR - My temporary "boss" is super adorable and intelligent so I was thinking of asking her out...BUT, at the same time, I don't want to make things awkward at the newspaper since, technically, she is my trainer (albeit only temporarily). Should I do it or is the risk too high?
