I (27F) have never been in a relationship. Not even in middle/high school, not even a casual thing with someone. I've gone on about 3 "dates" but they felt more like friends hanging out than anything. Anyway, I've decided to actually start trying to date people. I've been losing weight, investing more time in hobbies, putting myself put there more, etc.
I had a first date the other night and the other person asked about past relationships. I was honest in saying I never dated. They got a weird look on their face and asked why. The truth is I was incredibly depressed from 15-26. I hated myself and didn't have the energy to invest in another person really. I didn't say all of that, but I did tell my date I wasn't in a good place in my early 20's and it just never happened. They became disinterested after that and haven't texted or anything since.
So my question is, is there a better way to say that? I'm sure the same thing will come up on future dates. I fell like people look at me like there's something wrong with me. Is it better to be honest, should I tell them before the date? Any advice would be appreciated!
