Should I send a risky text for an old co workers phone number?

One of my old co workers (F20) is now working at my gym. I (M23) was her manager when I was in college and she was 17 at the time and off limits in my mind. She was the best highschooler there at time and I low key thought she was really pretty.

Fast forward to like a week and a half I noticed her working the counter at the gym. I was with a female friend helping her learn to lift. I worked out solo the next day and caught up with her for like 15 mins. Added on Facebook and sent a few texts but with long response times (last one was a day), but they weren't short and had emojis if that matters. A part of me thinks she's disinterested. She said she sorry and doesnt go on messenger much.

Now i was thinking of repling asking for her phone number and that id like to get to know her but Im not sure if that's a great idea. I'm a pretty shy guy when it comes to making dating moves. She's still friends with alot of my former and younger co workers and i don't want it to be awkward every time I see her at tbe gym.

Is this the move? Abort mission? Thank you!
