How do I know if he likes me?

Whats the best way to know if a guy likes me without having to outright ask him and scaring him off?

We talk everyday, some days flirty some days casual.. We’ve talked about future plans and ideas but I’m very much still a ‘mate’.

I feel coming on too strong would send him running for the hills.
