"Simping” is a word I see thrown around a lot on reddit. It’s usually used to refer to a guy that is overly polite or self-sacrificing towards women, or is overly concerned with womens’ feelings. It usually carries the implication that it’s a disingenuous attempt to get attention or sex from girls. But what if your natural personality is very polite and nice? I always feel paranoid that my niceness will turn people off, especially if it comes across like I’m faking it with some ulterior motive. I want to be myself when I talk to girls, but the idea of the “nice guy” has been so thoroughly attacked and criticized that I wonder if I’m shooting myself in the foot by showing this side of myself. I am genuinely interested in other people’s feelings, but I’m afraid that I’ll be mocked or rejected if I show this too much. How do you walk the line between being genuinely kind, and disingenuously “simping?” Is this something that worries anyone else?
