In my late 30's, thinking about trying speed dating in the summer when most people will be vaccinated and I'll be done my glow up! Anyone have experiences with in person speed dating?

I'm a 37 year old American male and have spent the past four months losing all the pounds I gained in covid (6ft 1, currently 194 pounds and 19 pounds away from my 175 goal). I will be hitting up the gym starting a week from now when my 2nd vaccine dose has fully kicked in. Home workouts are DONE and it is time to get back in full shape!

I tried online dating in the six months before, and also during the pandemic and, besides one short term thing, it was incredibly difficult and frustrating. Ghosting, bread crumbing, catfishing (Pictures from 15 years ago!) rude as fuck people, etc. I had not tried online dating for years and was surprised at how much it changed (of course I'm older now so that probably plays into it). I'm not super picky, the only thing I really care about is kids as I don't have or want them and had a v-sec a decade ago.

I have never tried speed dating and would imagine more people will be getting outside this summer to meet people. There are speed dating events in my area and I have no frame of reference on how good they are or if they are worth the $35 fee.

I'm pretty much set on trying it at least once, however I did see that the events scheduled for April all say "MEN SIGNUPS ARE FULL" which means these could be a total sausage fest. While I identify as queer, I am mainly attracted towards women and want a monogamous relationship, and these look like a purely hetero-thing. This isn't a totally bad thing, but I have no idea what type of people these events attract. Is this going to be a queer-friendly Ok Cupid type crowd or a conservative Christian Mingle type crowd? The age groups are also pretty huge, like 25-39, which is a pretty large age gap.

It's only $35 and I'm down to try almost anything once. I would love to hear from people who have tried in person speed dating!
