I’ve (M24) been on several dates over the past couple years - mainly from the apps. Sometimes they led to something, but mostly not. This time, I have a date with a girl (21) I’ve met thru friends (a couple years ago). It’s a long story so I’ll spare it.
But my main concern is screwing up what could be the start of something great. My current mindset is to just enjoy the moment and assume things won’t workout, but to hope for the best.
This girl and I hungout one on one over the summer, but I just saw us as friends. Over time, I’d started to catch feelings, but I never did anything about it. Her and I kept in touch here and there, but I didn’t feel like I was ready to date her - especially when I wasn’t sure how she felt about me. A few weeks ago, she messaged me out of the blue, and told me she is into me. I told her I felt the same way.
We finally have plans for this weekend to hang at my place, and then go to the bar. I’m super excited. I texted her a bit last week, but I think I’m gonna hold off on the texting until our date. I see her as girlfriend material, but I know that I shouldn’t run before I walk.
I’m struggling with how excited I am, and how I know we will have a good time. It’s been a few months since I’d seen her. I just won’t wanna set myself up for disappointment. How should I keep a level head and manage my expectations? How would you handle an opportunity like this?
