Awkward Interaction with coworker?

So I (f20) recently started working more with my coworker (m23) and we’ve been getting to know each other better and we talk way more than we did before. One day it was really slow, so we talked almost the entire day and laughed a lot too. He seems excited when I get to work with him, but he’s also just a very friendly, easy going person, so I’m not sure if it’s just his personality. I am more reserved as a person but I’ve been more outgoing and making jokes (that he laughs at) when I’m around him because it just feels comfortable.

Today at the end of the day (we work in a Dr’s office), the last patient had came up to me to complain about something, and I was getting ready to leave, but the patient was for the Dr. that he works for. So as I was leaving (I had things in my hands) I went up to him to let him know that the patient was frustrated, but I don’t know what sort of gesture I made for him to think I was going in for a fist bump. Like I said, I had things in my hands so I’m not sure why he would think that. So as he put his hand out and I didn’t reciprocate right away, he goes “oh I thought you were going in for a fist bump.” and I just laughed it off and went for it anyways, but he goes “well that’s awkward” and then I proceeded to let him know about the patient and I told him I hope he has a nice weekend and left.

Now he’s a pretty confident guy, so it seemed like he stammered up a bit after that interaction and I’m not necessarily sure if he did that because he wants to break the touch barrier, or if it was honestly just a friendly fist bump.

Earlier this day I made him laugh a little and he came to my desk to hand me something to do where I was sitting, and he could’ve easily just had me turn around and him hand it to me, but he put his hand on my chair, leaned forward, and was pretty close to me to let me know.

Sorry for the long post, but I just want to know what other people think about his behavior. I don’t really have other woman to compare his actions to at work since none of them are around our age or single.
