First Valentine's Day single in nearly 8 years and I could not be happier.

This is my [29M] first Valentine's Day alone in nearly 8 years and honestly I could not be any happier than I am today.

Living in Michigan, seasonal depression was a common occurrence for my friends and I. We were all in school, working a college job; while spending any excess time we had on xbox or dating. I went through the motions of life until I "thought" I would get that job out of college, start making enough money to buy a house, starting a family. Oddly enough that's not how life played out. This is common for all of us, just told a little differently depending on who you ask...

After 3 failed career opportunities in 2019, life began to feel dim. I learned that my depression stemmed from my sense of codependency. My relationship began to fall apart as there was nothing left in me to be happy about. I started going on walks to isolate myself with my thoughts of self-hatred. At some point we decided to break things off as neither of us were happy anymore.

I never took the time to invest in myself because I was too busy chasing the happiness in others.

If you don't have a valentine and feel down, take this time to appreciate yourself and what you've been through. We are resilient in our own unique way and each of you are awesome.

Whatever goals you have will happen if you invest the time and put in the work. If it's something you feel will make you happy, what's stopping you? Start by making it a short-term goal. Something you thought you would dread putting work into is now something you can look forward to every day.

I work many hours and love my job, workout nearly everyday, and sometimes struggle to find time for sleep. Most importantly, I'm happy.

Good things will happen when you invest in yourself. It takes time, but you owe it to yourself to be happy. If I can do it, you can do it too. Be proud of what you overcame and start investing in the person you want to become. I promise better days are ahead!

TLDR: Whether you have a valentine or not, invest in what makes you happy and learn to love the person you are. My first valentine's day alone and I could not be happier.
