How do you move on from the desire to date?
After a lot of self reflection, growth, therapy and dating, I'm coming to terms with the fact that I (36m) am not made for modern dating.
I've come here for advice before, most of it was helpful in allowing me to make progress on dating. Going from a lot of regular dating in my twenties, to a pair of committed relationships and then nearly nothing for 4 years, I got a lot of advice that I think helped me get some dates from OLD.
After going from invisible to about a date a week, I'm starting to think that I am incapable of finding the success I am looking for in dating. I've done a lot of work developing my deal-breakers, setting boundaries and sticking to them. There's no sense in starting a relationship with someone who is incompatible with my relationship goals.
The problem is that I'm not what the women I want, want. Dating is so hyper-competitive, I can't compete for the women I am interested in. They want someone that I'm not. Everyone has their preferences and deal breakers and that's fine. I'm not blaming anyone, I know this is on me. My success or failure in dating (as in life) are my own responsibility.
I've heard all the advice reddit is capable of giving on finding dates and dating. Without knowing me personally, it's impossible for strangers on the internet to point at the thing that's the problem, or present a solution. I've done a lot of work in therapy, learned some things about my self and my mental health that I didn't know before.
I want advice on how to get over the desire to date at all. How do I reach acceptance? How do I give up hope? I've been rejected, that's okay. How do I get over it?
