I’m a girl in my early 20’s who desperately needs to stop this cycle. My dating life is essentially: have a really incredible first date, start hanging out with person almost daily, have them immediately give me tons of validation and act like they’re obsessed with me to an at times overwhelming extent (red flag I’ll get to this), date for a few months and have them tell me all of the fun adventures we’ll have in the future and then boom they’re uninterested out of nowhere.
I’ve always had a pity party for myself over this because (at least from the typical societal view) I’m a total catch. Now I’m not perfect obviously but I’m very attractive and cool and tend to date dorkier guys. I think the world of them but part of me knows that according to societies shallow view..I’m a little out of their league BUT then they ditch me so I’ve always been a bit puzzled.
Turns out every guy I’ve dated like this was CLEARLY a serial dater. The most recent guy even told me he’s been a bit of one in the past and I STILL stayed.
When I go on a normal date where there aren’t fireworks and immediate ~omg I’m so into you~ signs from my date I write it off as meh. I search for the opposite and then learn that they’ve seriously dated TONS of girls. No matter how great you are some people just like the rush of a new flame and when they get bored they just rush off to the next one. My sister just sat me down and gave me this outside perspective and she’s totally right. I want something more long term and need to stop chasing the attention and passion they give me.
I’m finally realizing that I need to 1.) leave when I see the signs of a serial dater 2.)be more open minded to first dates that aren’t straight out of rom coms
