how do you guys vet people without feeling like a creepy private investigator? (27F)

I just had my heart broken a tiny bit by a literal scammer and i'm so mentally exhausted. matched with this guy last week. we hit it off instantly, same sense of humor, talked about our favorite stupid movies, even had similar family backgrounds. we moved to texting after a few days and i was genuinely getting excited to meet him.

he claimed he was out of town for work for a couple weeks. Every time I asked to facetime he had some excuse - bad hotel wifi, stuck in meetings, camera is glitching. eventually my gut was just screaming at me so I took one of the casual pics he sent me and dug deep into reverse image searching. turns out it was some random real estate agent in spain

I confronted him and he just blocked me immediately. Baiscally wasted a whole week of my life getting emotionally invested in a phantom

it makes me so incredibly angry that hinge and tinder charge insane amounts for premium features but their security is an absolute joke. they slap a blue checkmark on a profile after a basic selfie and call it a day, while scam rings just bypass it effortlessly. I saw a thread recently about how some networks are finally starting to use things like World App to actually verify you're a real human at a hardware level, and it's just infuriating that these massive dating monopolies won't do something similar. They clearly care more about inflating their user numbers for investors than protecting us from catfishes.

anyway... how do you all handle this now? do you just demand a facetime within the first 24 hours? I really don't want to start every single interaction acting hostile and demanding "proof of life" but i cant keep doing this to myself. it's ruining my ability to trust anyone on these apps.
