Am I doing this right? (Dating a shy guy)

F22 M26

Hello r/dating_advise! I’m new to this subreddit and wanted to ask for some unbiased advice.

I’m a 22 year old woman who is just trying out dating for the first time. I met a guy on hinge and I really like him. He’s sweet, nerdy, and really cute. He’s also super shy (which I think is also super cute), so I’ve been the one making pretty much all the moves. The thing is... I’m also super shy and this experience is entirely new to me, so I have no idea what in the hell I’m doing. I’m also a huge over thinker, which isn’t helping me much.

We’ve been talking for about a month now and have seen each other twice (he has been sick). Both times I was the one who invited him out, so after our last date I let him know I really enjoyed myself and said something along the lines of “Hey, since I chose the last two dates, you get to choose the next one, and just so you know the answer is yes ;)”. I’m trying to encourage him to take some more initiative and I’m hoping that by saying that it will help him feel more confident in inviting me out. Do you guys think this is a good approach?

We also haven’t kissed yet, the most we’ve done so far is hug when we see each other. I don’t think this is due to a lack of attraction, I can tell he likes me because we text each other pretty much everyday and he always asks how my day went, which is super sweet. How do I know when to initiate a kiss? I could tell he was nervous on our dates, so I’m afraid to move too fast for him and scare him away, but I’m also afraid to move too slowly and make him think I’m not interested.

What do you guys think? Am I just overthinking this? I’ve never taken the lead in a relationship before so any kind of feedback out be nice lol
