Starting dating this guy about a month ago. It’s been great and I like him but lately I’ve been noticing that he barely knows anything about me. He never asks me questions about my life, and whenever we’re together he just talks about himself and these random stories he has, complains to me about school, etc. sometimes I’ll try to interject about a story that happened to me, and he will quickly cut me off and act as if he didn’t hear it/wont ask follow up questions and go back to talking about himself. I’m not sure if this is on purpose or not.
The other night he was telling another one of my stories and I am clearly zoning out at this point, and he turns to me and asks “is this story not interesting to you?” And I said, “no it is. I’m listening” though inside I felt very small. He’s nice overall but I’m starting to just feel like he doesn’t care about me as a person. I finally brought it up to him and asked him why he doesn’t ask questions about me or try to get to know me. He said that “it takes time to get to know someone” but that he’s sorry because he’s just stressed with school.
I’m thinking I just want to end this. Even over text he will ask about my week and I’ll respond and I’ll also ask about his, but he never responds to what I’ve been up to, he just goes back to talking about himself.
We’re both 28 and I am someone who values communication. I understand he’s in grad school and it’s tough, but I’m starting to feel very used. I want someone to want to know about me! I always make it a point to ask him things.
