Hi Redditors, I'm the woman(F27) in this situation and I'm in dire need of advice.
First, a little backstory:
About 5 months ago, I met a guy (we'll call him George(M28)) through mutual friends. We hit it off instantly, we have a lot in common, we've even gone on a couple of dates. He's honestly everything I'm looking for in a partner. It scares me how great we are together.
Here's the issue: 2 years ago, I used to talk to a different guy(we'll call him Jake(M27)), who is also a part of this friend group. Long story short, Jake and I had a talking stage, we slept together and quickly figured out that we weren't compatible. It lasted no longer than 3 months and I haven't talked to him since. The problem now is, everyone, including George, is friends with Jake, and they all know we have a past. I didn't originally think this would be a problem, until our friend group mentioned that they would never take a girl seriously if they've already slept with one of their friends, regardless of the situation. I hate everything about this sentiment because a) I didn't even know George existed and b) it makes me feel guilty about my dating history when I shouldn't. I've already communicated to George what happened between me and Jake. It's been hard to gauge how he feels about it, but I'm worried that this ruined any kind of future with him--especially when his friends have such a strong opinion about it.
My question is if you've ever been in a situation like this, what was your outcome? It's been really weighing on my mind and I feel alone in thinking that this is a silly reason to not date someone you love to be around.
